CUNSA, Solution 360 - Development and formulation

Development and formulation of food supplements

Every brand begins with an idea: a benefit, a target audience, a target price point. Our job is to turn that idea into a real product formula—feasible to manufacture, stable over time, and compliant with the regulations of your target market.

At CUNSA, product development is not an isolated step; it is the stage where cost, quality, and regulatory viability are defined before the first unit is ever produced.

What does it mean to formulate a custom supplement?

Formulation is much more than selecting ingredients. It involves determining the correct dosages to ensure the intended benefit is both effective and scientifically substantiated, selecting raw materials with strong technical support, addressing the physicochemical compatibility of components, and choosing the delivery format that best provides the desired benefit to the consumer. A well-designed formula balances three factors that are often in conflict: efficacy, cost, and regulatory compliance. That is where an experienced manufacturer makes the difference compared to a simple “blend of ingredients.”

From concept to prototype

We start with your brief—target benefit, target audience, destination market, and target price point—and translate it into a qualitative and quantitative formula. We define the active ingredients and their dosages, excipients, and delivery vehicles, then produce prototypes to evaluate taste, appearance, dissolution, and performance. We refine the formulation with you through successive iterations until we achieve a version that meets your commercial objectives and our technical standards.

Format selection

The delivery format is not merely a cosmetic detail—it determines the achievable dosage, cost per unit, and overall consumer experience. We develop products in the formats manufactured at our facility:

  • Capsules: Versatile, cost-efficient to produce, and widely accepted by consumers.
  • Softgels: Ideal for oils and lipid-soluble active ingredients.
  • Powders: Suitable for high dosages, proteins, and large-volume blends.
  • Sachets: Single-serving convenience, portability, and powder or liquid unit-dose formats.

We help you determine the most suitable format based on your active ingredients, sales channel, and cost structure.

Formulate with registration and shelf space in mind

A brilliant formula that cannot be registered is of little value. That is why, from day one, we evaluate ingredients and dosage levels against the regulations of the target market, and design the product around the claims that can be legitimately supported on the label. This approach helps ensure a smooth path through product registration and customs clearance, while delivering a clear, communicable consumer benefit on the shelf.

The same principle applies to our regulatory affairs services: compliance is built into the product from the beginning, not improvised at the end.

Scaling and transfer to production

A formula that performs well in the laboratory must perform just as reliably at industrial scale. We document the master formula, define product specifications and process parameters, and transfer the development to manufacturing under our Good Manufacturing Practices (21 CFR Part 111). The result is a product that can be reproduced consistently from batch to batch—not an experiment that worked only once.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can they develop a formula from scratch?

Yes. We work from an idea or a desired benefit and build the complete formula, or we start from a formula you already have and optimize it in cost, stability, or compliance.

We define it contractually according to the type of project. In exclusive developments for your brand, the formula is linked to your project.

It depends on the complexity of the formula, the format, and the requirements of the target market. We’ll estimate it with you at the start of the project, once the brief has been defined.

Yes. We check ingredients, dosages, and claims against local regulations before manufacturing, so that the product is registrable and importable.
